Hi Nils,
> Normally Composition Contests are anonymous to keep them free of personal thoughts and impressions. It is sad but a Jury cannot be objective, even a small picture or the name or e-mail address can be too much.
Good point, I'll ask Than to make the material anonymous when he forwards it
to the other jury members. I'm pretty sure that was his intention anyway.
Looking forward to hear your composition (although I won't know it's yours... ;-) )
Marc
Hi Nils,
> Nice idea but the deadline for not giving it personally was already crossed on 26th of march.
That should have said 26th of April ! Sorry I overlooked this and thanks for mentioning.
> Also it would be nice to know if the composition is anonymous or not.
Anonymous ? Why would you want it to ?
Cheers,
Marc
Hi all,
exactly 150 years ago the first sound recording was made, written in ink.
In exactly one month the Linux Audio Conference 2010 will take place.
These two events gave rise to
"The 150-Years-of-Music-Technology Composition Competition"
There are nice prizes to be won and of course the honour and fame associated
with the winning composition. The winning composition will also be played
at the Linux Sound Night on May 3rd.
All the info you need for participating in the competition is here:

Have fun !
Than van Nispen tot Pannerden and Marc Groenewegen

All,
We are continuing to encounter issues with our server and will have to take the system offline for a couple of hours until we figure out what is exactly going on. We'll keep you posted as soon as we know more.
Best wishes,

Dear fellow LA* members,
As some of you may be aware, instead of a static news page, Linuxaudio.org now has a direct LAA feed as its front page. Consequently, I would like to encourage everyone to please put special care in crafting your LAA posts, meaning much more so than those destined for lau/lad lists, as this is in part what everyone sees when they visit Linuxaudio.org (and if our awstats are any indication < http://stats.linuxaudio.org/cgi-bin/awstats.pl?config=www.linuxaudio.org>, then we do get tons of exposure there that is perhaps more importantly steadily growing). I say this not because there have been some grave offenses recently but rather because I think as a community it would really nice if we collectively put extra attention to this facet that is much considerably "public" than a typical lau/lad post. So, I guess what I am trying to say is perhaps having a post on lau/lad lists mirrored on laa may not be always a good idea.
If I had to single-out one post in there that could use some TLC :-) it would be the call for submissions for the upcoming LAC. Namely, suggesting that there has been little interest may end-up looking like a self-fulfilling prophecy--new and incoming potential contributors to LAC who may have come across this post could be easily discouraged by the way this reads despite the fact we all know that most conference submissions are usually uploaded in the last 72 hours before the submission deadline.
At any rate, don't mean to be preaching, so I hope no one will get offended. And if you do, I guess I owe you a pint (hear that Frank? ;-)
Just my 5-cents worth...
Best wishes,
Ivica Ico Bukvic, D.M.A.

You may have noticed an apparent lack of consortium-oriented correspondence over the past month or so on LA* lists. It's been a great winter break for all of us involved in Linuxaudio.org. Alas, the end of it was punctuated by the server crash which occurred earlier yesterday. Luckily, we've recovered the system with minimal data loss and are now back up and running. So, what follows is a long-overdue update to the membership.
It is my great pleasure to announce latest members of the Linuxaudio.org consortium:
AVLinux

GNU Tick

We welcome you in our midst and look forward to working with you!
Should you happen to have any questions, suggestions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me.

- From Sunday evening (UTC) until now we had a server outage of ~20 hours
in which all linuxaudio.org services were not accessible. We apologize
for the inconvenience, the cause of which was hardware failure of the
server (cooling failed and the system halted due to overheating). It
took some time to get access to the hardware, fix it and subsequently
perform a complete file-systems check..
Thanks to Ico who maintains the hardware, the services are up an running
again and there has been no data and email loss.
Sorry for this boring message. You may rest assured that this outage did
not include any major animal involvement and no one was harmed during
the process. The three spiders are alive and well.
Cheers,
robin

Please allow me to echo what many others have already said so eloquently on the LA* lists:
On behalf of the Linuxaudio.org consortium, L2Ork, and personally I would like to extend very best Holiday wishes to all LA* users, developers, artists, enthusiasts, supporters, contributors, companies, and sponsors. May we have many more years of a thriving community and bountiful creativity.
Likewise, I would like to express deepest gratitude to all who have contributed towards making audio on Linux not only possible but also remarkable! After all, Linuxaudio.org, L2Ork, or many of my personal projects would've never been possible without your talents and generous contributions!

The FFADO team is proud and happy to announce the release of FFADO 2.0.0.
As the release candidates have been around for almost one year now
without a significant amount of bug reports we feel confident that the
current code-base has matured. Around the end of november the 1000-th
device was registered as being used with FFADO, which seemed to be a
nice number to triggered the release.
Furthermore on December 2 the Linux kernel version 2.6.32 has been
released. This version fixes the new kernel FireWire drivers such that
they are compatible with FFADO. So once the distributions pick up this
kernel the old/new kernel stack confusion should be history.
Thanks go out to the vendors that provided us with gear to support for
the 2.0 release: Echo Digital Audio, Edirol, Ego Systems Inc, Focusrite,
Mackie and Terratec. Kudos for their early-bird support!
Special thanks also go to BridgeCo and TC Applied for providing us with
their development platforms and for helping with vendor contacts. Their
support makes that FFADO covers the most widely used platforms for
FireWire audio and that we can quickly implement support for new devices.
Looking ahead to the 2.1 release we can announce that we have
implemented (basic) support for additional devices from Focusrite,
Behringer, Stanton and TC Electronic. We plan to move to beta-testing
2.1 fairly soon as development on it has been ongoing for more than a
year now. Additionally, work is being done on the RME devices, but its
not yet known when that will be finished. Support for some other vendors
is in the pipeline, so stay tuned for more announcements.
A second major development is the move of the streaming infrastructure
to kernel space. A kernel-space implementation will bring significant
improvements with respect to reliability and efficiency. Furthermore it
will allow to expose an ALSA interface, meaning that the scope of
FireWire audio on Linux is extended significantly. Thanks to the Google
Summer of Code and the Linux Foundation, work on this has been done
during the summer. The code is not yet ready for use, but things are moving.
