Hi Jeremy,
Reaching out because I'm getting questions about
the
linuxaudio.org
domain. Is
linuxaudio.org registered anywhere as a trademark or as an
entity/organisation/institute/association?
Originally, it was an informal consortium, without any official
registrations.
Questions are all about
registering similar domain names (
linuxaudio.net,
linuxaudio.com, etc.).
As far as i know this should be no problem right?
linuxaudio.net is available to register.
linuxaudio.com is 'for sale' for $5,199 USD from an unrelated Las Vegas
company. They also have linuxaudio.mom available for $30.
At the request of Jon 'maddog' Hall I put this in the original website
footer about two decades ago:
"LINUX® is a registered trademark of Linus Torvalds in the USA and other
countries."
I was in contact with 'maddog' last year; he would be a good person to
ask about the trademark. Unlike Debian, there has never been a
prohibition that I know of regarding the use of 'Linux' in project names
or URLs.
Cheers!
Daniel
