Hello all,
The Linux Mark Institute, now part of OSDL it seems, is attempting to
charge organisations which use Linux in their name - even non-profits
like
linuxaudio.org:

I think we should resist this move on principle.
I agree we should definitely resist.
other non-profit (dis)organizations like
dyne.org could even suffer
major problems, not even on principle, since there is no funding
whatsoever. this is about freedom to code: if you do something based on
GNU/Linux as the majority of free software is today, then of course you
should mention the technology it is based on, then you are forced by
linuxmark to pay them - then there is no more free software.
i think we should state our thoughts, Cc: them to Linus and eventually
get prepared to run a campaign about it - hopefully the step of shouting
loud won't be needed.
we still need to figure out what is going to happen in EU with SW
patents, and now - even being non-profit - we get already harrassed by
some US based trademark on Linux ... i smell quite some work for
activists and lawyers here.
ciao
