Hi!
My own proposal with variations, loosley based on Patrick's work:

In case people like it, I will fine tune it and could provide a version
with same shading.

I like them. Very simple. Could you maybe make one more variation? A
cross between the two. Just add the straight line coming out of the
arrow to the one on the left. I don't know if it'll work, but it might
be a good compromise between the two?

Very nice! Now IMHO if we could just somehow emphasize that we are
specifically oriented towards Linux platform, I think we'd have a winner ;-)

Well, there are only 2 options to communicate a relation to Linux:
writing it out, or a penguin (where the later works only for the initiated).
With a bit of imagination, you can already see a bird head in my design ;)
I might be able to draw a semi-serious looking pinguin (less comic style
than tux). But should I? It's convienient to speak of Linux audio, but is
the kernel that important? On the other hand, one animal is enough ;)
In almost every instance, the logo will be used in combination with
a textline, anyway.

Let's not open *the* can o'worms ;-). Linux is nowadays synonymous with the
OS even though this was originally obviously not the case (think: xerox
becoming synonymous with making copies).

Possibly, but I'd say (at least IMHO) if the logo requires text as a
"crutch" to clarify its purpose, perhaps it has not achieved what is
supposed to be its primary goal--identity. Granted, some of this will be
generated in time through its persistence, but we should still aim for
something that is as independent from the text as possible.

Less comic, more graphic/iconic/silhouette-ish, yes ... could work. but
seems somehow colder than I perceive this community to be ... maybe with
some color to soften the severity? perhaps colors reminiscent of those
used in the LAD logo?
