i find Greg's approach very simple, incredible it wasn't there before!
:) is it what a linuxsound consortium would be up to, concerning audio
devices?
any thoughts?

I personally think that we cannot make that offer since I do not have either
manpower nor institutional backing to see this through. Before this could be
even remotely possible we need:
1) incorporation of the consortium, so that we can be considered a
registered entity
2) commitment from people capable of tackling such a task
P.S. How is that RSS for linuxaudio.org page progressing?

There are probably a number of LAD programmers with the interest,
expertise and time to develop hardware drivers.
Perhaps the consortium could serve as a focal point to provide
collective credibility with the kernel developers and with the
hardware vendors. Start out with one or two test cases: match
up willing vendors with interested developers. Shepherd the
process through with the kernel developers. Etc.
