Look at http://torrent.dulug.duke.edu for instructions and substitute 'yarrow'
for 'tettnang' in all the urls to get FC1 (I emailed the admin asking that the
yarrow/FC1 links be referenced on that page)

Hi list,
I am searching a software that beyond to be a multitracks audio editor (like audacity)
can open also a video track (someone remember the old win/mac protools free ?).
I would like to put in sinc some audio sources/files with the sliding of one video file
for being able to make one decent (little) film soundtrack.
Someone knows something of similar for linux (but also for win or macosX) but only gpl ?

Hi everyone,
I'm about to buy a new soundcard, but havn't decided fully yet on which
product to buy. We'r not talkin Pro equipment here. The main purpose
(not the only!) ist pass through digital signals to a Meridian DAC. One
I'm lookin at is the Trust 514DX 5.1. It's fairly priced and have an
extra bracket for digital toslink and RCA. The chip is the ever so
populare c-media cd3DX cmi8738. Basically, apart from some few details
on their web site, I don't know anything about this product/chip. What
can I expect? What can it do? How does it measure, etc...... I would
greatly apriciate it if anyone out there have the knowledge and time to
give me some opinions, experiences, facts and so on....
Best regards
Tim
Hello,
I'm not sure if this got sent out already. If so I'm repeating
myself.
I'm looking at the m-audio audiophile usb device and the m-audio quattro
usb. Does anyone use these? Do they work under linux? Any warnings about
these devices?
Thomas

Hello,
I am trying to convert vinyl to CD. I am using Audacity for recording,
and am planning to use GWC (thanks for pointing me to it!) for
processing.
I have to "digitize" sound at 48k. There seems to be obvious distortion
at 44k1. This is probably because Intel ICH5 only uses 48k internally.
So I need to convert the sample rate to 44k1 separately. And to keep the
quality high...
Question 1. How do I do the conversion? Can't find it in Audacity. (I
did find the "High-quality sample rate converter" settings in
Preferences, but how do I get to use this converter?) Or perhaps there
is a tool better than Audacity for this purpose?
Question 2. Should I convert the rate before or after "cleaning" the
sound in GWC?

Hello,
I need to encode some WAV files into MP3. I'm planning to use Lame.
Lame does not seem to accept wildcards, so I wrote a script-line:
for a in *.wav; do lame --preset cbr 256 $a ; done
But, this encodes *.wav into *.wav.mp3 . How do I make it drop the "wav"
from the name?
(If I need to do it by more elaborate scripting, please do tell me how;
I'm somewhat unfamiliar with bash scripting as yet)
Yours, Mikhail Ramendik

Very generic. I am not compiling the whole kernel but unpack the sources, copy
the system configuration to .config, make oldconfig and then start compiling
the kernel. Once it gets into compiling C, can stop it.
All this assures that all the includes are around for compiling other kernel
objects, drivers. I have in the past tried installing "kernel trees" and
"kernel headers" for this purpose. DId not always work.

What is said in the documentation did not achieve the copy. The package
manager simply downloads a tarball. Copying manually and rebooting does the
job.

Yeah. I still have stuff that will not compile no matter what I do.
Hello,
When one "digitizes" vinyl records into the computer, there are offten
clicks, pops, and hissing.
Which Linux tool(s) can I use to "clean" these records?

Hello,
I'm wondering about compatibilty for some usb audio cards. Is the
m-audio audiophile usb compatible under linux? Is the m-audio quattro usb
comp under linux? Is there a website where I can find all this info out?
Anything wrong with using a usb device?
Thanks,
Thomas
