This mail follows a thread that's just been happening, but due to the
wonders of gmail I have accidentally deleted it :( Anyway it's to do with
kmix not behaving...
Strange about gamix not working for you because alsamixergui and qamix don't
work at all for me (can't move the sliders).
It seems kamix has been renamed kalsamix (http://kalsamix.sourceforge.net/).
I don't know whether it will dock (I haven't tried it and I am not at my own
workstation at the moment). However there are some debs at
http://www.autistici.org/debian-xgl/debian-incoming/kalsamix/ so you can
always give a it a try.

As I was renewing my subscription today I noticed that TapeOp has now
extended their distribution to the UK &EU countries. I've not seen
that before so I thought I'd happily pass the information on to the
LAU list. If someone on this list wants to subscribe please follow
this link:
http://europe.tapeop.com/
I know of no magazine on recording more consistently interesting than
TapeOp and my feelings have nothing to do with the fact that the
magazine is 100% free. I've subscribed for probably 5 years now and
still thrill when each new issue shows up. Great stuff.
They do harvest email addresses but to the best of my knowledge do not
sell them.
Cheers,
Mark
I'm running kde and have kmix as the mixer. I a little pop-up which is
supposed to be a volume slider ... problem is that is really isn't. Not
with my 24/96 card. Here's the problem: the card uses 2 channels, both
labeled ADC to control the left and right volumes. I can assign one or
the other to the <main volume> slider, but it only effects one channel.
So, is there a way to tie the 2 together so I can easily control volume?
Now, the reason I got to this at all is that I got a new keyboard
(computer, not music) and it has some multimedia buttons on it. I've got
volume-up/down and mute. The mute displays a nice Mute-On or Mute-Off
message, but does nothing. And the up/down displays a nice slider and
appears to do the same as kmix. Again, I need to tie the 2 sides
together for this. Also, I have no idea of what the program for the
multi-media keys is, but I assume it is kmix.

Greetings,
The config.xml file for AVSynthesis includes a setting for the window size :
width="1280" height="1024" fullscreen="false"
Alas, setting it to anything other than the current screen dimensions
results in a non-start. The program simply reports that the requested
screen size can't be created.
From what I've learned so far, it appears that I need to set modelines
for other screen dimensions. The modelines are *not* the same things as
the Mode settings in the Screen section of xorg.conf, but I'm not clear
on how to find what they should be or how to enter them into xorg.conf.
Btw, I do have various modes set in my Screen section, but that doesn't
seem to matter to AVSynthesis. I'd like to resolve this problem, because
AVS saves its rendered files in the current screen size (1280x1024), and
I'd like to save them in a smaller size.
So once again I turn to the deep minds of LAU for assistance. Any
suggestions ? The cards and monitors in question are:
GeForce 7300GS with Envision EN-910e (JAD)
GeForce 7600GS with Sony Trinitron E200 (64 Studio)
TIA!
Best,
dp
(Sorry, I changed my name...)

Hi everyone,
gcomposer is out, 0.9, first version.
It's a little tool to write music (a mini rosegarden,
denemo, nted, canorus, ...).
It's small and should be fast.
I am looking for people to test the
playback system. Since I run OSS (shame on me)
it may or not work on recent architectures (ALSA,
JACK, whatever). The main question is whether MIDI
works.
I also wonder what you would think about the input
mechanism developed, which is very keyboard-centric.
Another point is the tutorial mechanism: is it good
and useful or not?
(And of course I need to know whether the program
crashes a lot or not. Normally it should not.)
It requires gtk.
It is released in the public domain.

Take care,
Cedric.
