i recently tried using patchage to connect the zynsubfx and yoshimi
synths to rosegarden. both synths show in patchage with different
ports to usual, and i'm not sure what to do with them. the usual setup
is:
blue: audio
green: midi (alsa midi i think?)
both the above synths have a red input port. what is this - is it jack
midi? how do i work with it?
or is there any documentation for patchage, i can't find anything?
cheers

can anyone recommend any floss synths or plugins that do a decent job
of modelling (or any other way of reproducing the sound) a stringed
instrument - cello, violin, viola, etc?
cheers

Hello,
My problem is that when ever new jack capable program starts or ardour
starts playback, H/W Out 1 & 2 switch from Digital Mix to PCM Out 1 & 2.
Is there a way to disable this, or at least to work around it? Thanx!
Hallo
I was wandering if i can use
"First and Second Order Ambisonic Decoding Equations"
from this page:
http://www.muse.demon.co.uk/ref/speakers.html
for setups in ambdec by fons?
http://www.kokkinizita.net/linuxaudio/
The Speaker Setups are from/for a programm called "Ambisonics
Command-Line Decoder"
http://www.muse.demon.co.uk/utils/ambidec.html
my problem is that the speaker position is of demons ambidec is in
positions in the room (x,y,z) and not as dist, azim, elev as in fons ambdec
is there some handy script somewhere to convert between these two?
thanks
olaf
Hi there,
I'm looking for a couple of musicians for a band.
It may be unusual, but what I want to do at the moment is to cover a
song. More specifically, I want to sing an existing song.
Maybe view it more as a tribute than a cover, because I simply adore
that band, they just hit it on the head for me, they're incredible.
It's rather unlikely that they'll join up with me, so I'm looking for
other musicians to join me.
The band is a rather traditional rock formation, singer, drummer,
bassist, a guitarist or two, and for a while they had a cellist as well
(which was incredible btw.).
If you don't yet know who I'm talking about, good grief, don't grief,
they're called Therapy?
They have lots of songs on their website (therapyquestionmark.co.uk)
and I'm sure you can find stuff on youtube. Oh, and they have a couple
of CDs and stuff too.
Anyway, the song I'd like to sing for a start is called
"Gimme back my brain" and can be found on the album "Shameless".
There's no way of telling whether this will be the last one, many of
the songs are just too great.
You have to realize that this is kind of a suicide mission. With me
involved as a singer the chances of success are slim at best.
Nevertheless, I'll try, and I want you to join me.
Good luck,
Philipp
Hi all! Q, I'll answer a bit quickly in order not to take up too
much list space, but I'm happy to elaborate more via direct email
if you want. (Or on list if someone else is interested too!)
I use jOrgan for all the organs at present. The Theatre organ is
playing Gigasamples with LinuxSampler. The Classical organ uses
soundfonts with Fluidsynth directly from inside jOrgan. It works
through Jack just fine. If you continue to have trouble with
that, let me know. Better yet, the jOrgan list will get you all
the info you might ever want as well, and more!
In case you or anyone else is interested, I'm using Ecasound and
Nama for recording. LinuxSampler is playing through Jconvolver,
and Fluidsynth is using its own effects. I would like to have
used MIDISH to record sequences before doing audio recording, but
I couldn't bend my brain around how to integrate two different
organs, the sequencer, and the audio at that point!
Thanks all.
Kevin
Hello LAUers!
So just a few days ago, Kevin sent me these and was quite happy for me to
pass them onto you. Two duets of chruch and theatre organ. He uses jOrgan with
some soundfonts, I believe. I CC'd him, oso if you have questions or nice
comments to make, just include him. :-)
The first one is a mix of the bell caroll, whatever that is - not too
familiar with English christmas carolls - and a Bach chorale (nun komm' der
Heiden Heiland). The second one is Jesu, Joy of Men's desiring. Kevin wasn't
overly pleased with the playing, but I think it's beautiful. There are some
slight timing problems, because the organ software didn't want to behave
properly, but it's easy to skip past that.
I believe the links below should work for a month, then they will go out.
So enjoy it and thanks Kevin!

I tried the JACK-enabled vocoder, latest versino (0.29)
Is it supposed to sound like this?
http://restivo.org/misc/vocodertest.ogg
Not too intelligible. This was with default settings, with some panning, and Monosynth as the carrier.

If I have a project with 10 or 20 (or more) tracks, is it possible to
group the tracks so that I can selectively view a subset?
Example, I might have 5 drum tracks all set the group-drum and 4
guitar tracks (group-guitar). It'd be nice to hit a button so that I
see only the drums or, similarly, to hide them.
