I think in your case I would go the route of SoundFont via Swami, as you surmised. I *think* it can do everything you need.

My next direction is to try to create a SoundFont in Swami. It looks like it should be possible, and then perhaps I could get what I want from LinuxSampler? Can I setup a virtual drumkit without multiple outputs and hihat cutoff within the patch using SoundFonts?
