I think this seems a good option. If you switch it off I guess you need to be ready to get a lot of duplicate mails because a lot of mail clients don't support reply to list properly, and web-based clients like google certainly don't.

Personally I got tired of having to manage a mountain of local mail and so just leave it on the server.... probably bad practice but I really don't care! With this I found the web interface far more convenient than any standalone mail client. Also better on the move.. also:
