The amount of delay depends on you JACK settings (or ALSA settings when using
the ALSA backend for Ardour).
Change the settings to have less latency, so less buffers and smaller buffers.

Beaware that this demands more from you computer, both in terms of processing
power, and correct "real-time audio" setup.

Techie answer: there will always be a delay.
Non-techie answer: if you get below 5 milli-seconds of delay, most people
won't notice it at all :)
