hello all,

I am thinking about using a linux box to relay midi sync from my control room to players in my live room via a network connection. control room is about 50' or so from the live room so the network seems like the best solution. I have a local gigabit network between the rooms so I don't think bandwidth will be an issue. I am looking at a network to midi util like multimidicast running on a linux box in the live room to capture the udp midi beats from my os x server in the mix room. The linux/relay box would be connected via usb to a 4x4 midi box (or 8x8 if needed) and ideally it would pass the mtc from the network to the midi outs on the midi box and then players in the room could use traditional midi cables to sync up.

Realtime linux seems like the right choice for this as it would be nice to just use it like a lights out server on the network and manage it from my laptop. It seems like jackd is what I would use to pull this off with audio but I am not sure about the midi. and also not sure about the network to alsa to jack to midibox latency.

Has anyone else done something like this for a cheap but reliable sync solution?

thanks!!
