you might have noticed that all their instruments are percussive (in the
sense that one thing hits another thing and causes it to vibrate, possibly
within a resonant cavity.
violins and trombones are completely unrelated to the sort of physical
model they use at present, so "extending" would really mean "inventing
from
scratch".
