This is another piece done without any BPM ticking behind. Again,
smooth and relaxed, piano based, perhaps even intimate. Notes are not
exactly falling precisely on the spots. Accent is given to the piano
theme, with some synth bass and other synth support.
Another perhaps "pensive" piece, where what was important was to
capture the improvisation and not refining it ad vitam aeternam. I
also think that I do not have yet the skills required to refine such a
spontaneous expression while still keeping its essence.
This said, mixing a solo piano is not easy at all. The pianoteq
modeling even has the noises of the hammers and the sustain pedal,
which makes me smile as this was played on a Novation Launchkey 49
keyboard.

You might have found it difficult to mix the solo piano, but the strain
paid. :) If you had drowned it in some warm, acoustic reverb, it would
almost have sounded nostalgic to me, reminiscent of the early 20th
century, if not exactly in style, but in its atmosphere. Lovely song.

Once again very nice. The end sort of sounds like it's tacked on but I
suspect that is because it goes from fairly mobile to solitary. I
agree with Jeanette that some reverb would have jelled it together a
bit more, possibly, or....?

Indeed it was. It stands out a bit too much. For bridging to the
'tackled' piece, and for that piece itself, it would have been nice to
add a bit of reverb. I'll redo that part of the mix before putting it
aside.
This said, adding a reverb all the way to make it sound nostalgic,
perhaps more dreamy, could be nice although the way I see it would be
to remove the existing pianoteq processing to yield a very dry piano
sound, then to add reverb solely for its FX value. Even the playing
could be adapted eg. not leaning so much on the sustain pedal to let the
reverb effect through. I'll note it down as an idea for a redo of the
piece.

Nice tune! I like the airy flow. If I would adjust something it would be
the synth bass, starts of fine but later on there are some notes which are
a bit late, syncing them or even putting them early would enhance the
experience, I think.

Absolutely. There's potential in there for doing a 'serious' redo.
The idea behind this one though was to be as close as possible to the
first intent. The piano just had about approx. 10 minutes out of thin
air. 10 minutes before these chords did not exist. So they were
recorded in a very short time, and them other sounds added just about
as quickly. There was more time spent mixing.
What would be the point in putting publicly a piece that has timing
problems and is perhaps not at its utmost representation ? It would be
something like having the creative moment expressed in its most simple
way. Of course, if people would actually pay to hear this, then
there'd be a lot more work put into.

Thanks. There's also some rougher material. "I still haven't found
what I'm looking for" as the song goes. Or something like that. If I
ever work on making a CD I will have to choose. Not to scare away
ambient people by having rough stuff, and not to scare away rough
people by having ambient stuff :)
