Hi,
You can find a demo version of Metsänpeitto by following this link and
clicking play-button in the player:

It was done entirely with 64 Studio (Ardour, Qsynth, ZynAddSubFx,
Hydrogen, Creox...) Some of the tracks were played with laptop keys
(while traveling in Africa), i have to re-play those some day.
More songs coming soon... Amazing how much fun one can get out of a
laptop, good bunch of Linux audio applications, echo soundcard, one
small mic, earphones and children's 1/8 guitar.

Listening now, but unfortunately on my laptop speakers so I'll have to
listen again when I'm with better equipment. Great music to listen to.
Nuku has a great feel about it. Just the sort of thing I tend to drift
toward myself.

I try to finish Metsänpeitto within couple of weeks, then i'll make it
available for download.

I have to say, that this was really awesome track. Very interesting style,
would love to have it as a high-quality download.
I really have to ask, how have you done the violins / strings in the track
"nuku". Especially, what sound libraries have been used?

It was Qsynth with Slowstrings of Titanic 200 GMGS soundfont.
I don't know if this works:

Last time i checked, it was not permitted to upload Titanic without the
creators' approval.
Another soundfont I like is PC51f. It is smaller than Titanic, but
includes many nice instruments as well.

Two new demo songs called Helvetin rauniot ("Ruins of Hell") and Hyvä
tuuli ("Good wind") can be listened here:

Again, I used mostly Ardour, Qsynth, ZynAddSubFx and Hydrogen. Guitar
and bass were recorded directly through a mixer. For vocals and acoustic
guitar I had Samson Q7 mic covered with a woollen sock. The synth sounds
of Helvetin rauniot were made with my friend's Roland MC-303 many years
ago. The drum sample of Hyvä tuuli was made with Freebirth.
Feedback and suggestions are welcome. I'm trying to finish a full-length
album by summer, hopefully.
Metsänpeitto means something like "blanket of forest". In Finnish
mythology it is a state where one (human or animal) can fall into when
roaming in the forest. In this state one is not visible to others (or
appears as a stump or a stone) and one may feel that the forest has
suddenly become strange, unknown. It is believed that Metsänpeitto is
caused by goblins (or maahiset). There are several tricks for getting
out of Metsänpeitto, but some have remained there forever.

Any English lyrics? I tried to translate the lyrics through google translation
but that's probably a no-no. I think I got the general mening. Then I googled
Metsänpeitto and found the fi.wikipedia that had a ref. to en.wikipedia. It's
seems that the English version is time-slip. Could that be true?

Gee, the Google translation is hilarious! Maybe I should make a version
with those lyrics? I wonder how "kuoleva maa" (dying earth/nation)
became "mortal March".
Well, maybe some day I try to translate the lyrics, thanks for your

Metsänpeitto may include time slip, even though they are not the same.
There are also stories about husbands who have disappeared for several
days and then come back telling their wives how they had fallen into
metsänpeitto. One symptom has also been that their breath has smelled
bad. I guess they indeed have experienced a kind of time slip too...
