Hello,
I started the Soundcloud page a year ago. I thought I should share the
music I make. This was an opportunity for me to learn about mixing
music, about putting a bit more 'seriousness' in the process, more
technical aspects, paying attention to more details, in short,
polishing up a bit and structuring pieces. At that time I bought a
book on mixing, started to read articles.
A year later while I'm still learning I can see that there was a bit of
a road that was made and I can see that if I go one, it will become
easier to bridge emotions to sounds.
A year later there are 33 pieces that I uploaded. There were 4453
plays, 85 likes, 134 downloads and 27 followers. While these numbers
are certainly extermely average if not sub par, I find it very nice in
their own way.
So I'd like to thank everyone !!
During this week I will try to upload 5 pieces, some kind of a marathon
of composing, arranging and mixing. So here's the first one...
Freetidbit' is using only synthesizers available for free and more
specifically, u-he synthsizers that are available for free. The
Triplecheese synth for instance provides bass, Podolski provides a
melody, TyrellN6 some chords, Zebralette and Beatzille provides sounds
and additional support. All these synths are available for free and
runs natively in Linux. The drums OTOH are not free.

I try to favour commercial products which support Linux, so it's good
to see u-he virtual synthesizers in beta testing for the platform. I've
been enjoying auditioning in their Zebra2 today. Time constraints stop
me doing much more than that, so the fifteen minute demo (until it goes
out of tune) works well for me. I tried their Repro yesterday. The demo
for that is noisy after a few minutes. I'll try the free ones as well.
The 'orange button' never sounded so good :)
Would be good if other commercial VST producers (I like d16 and Arturia)
support the Linux platform too. Rebooting to MS Windows for state-of-the-art
music tools hasn't been enjoyable. Wouldn't have wanted to miss the d-16
LuSH101 though.
I haven't used audio tools on Linux for some time and it's great to see
everything working so well, without much configuration on Mint 18. Ardour
is looking superb and I was able to find all I needed to know to get plugins
and my keyboard and interface working. Many thanks to all contributors and -

One synth that I discovered recently, designed by Wolfram Franke of
Waldorf and Taiho Yamada of Alesis and M-Audio Venom, as well
as graphic designer Kristina Childs, is Biotek. It is built on a
sampling platform called Acktion of which there's no documentation yet
but seems to offer manipulation of samples to a certain degree. In any
case the idea is about the blending of nature and technology. I still
have to explore that synth thoroughly. so far I find much fun in
exploring sounds in there. Depending on the complexities of the sound
patch, can require more work to fit in a mix, though.

The only aspect I had to configure is the real-time response of the
kernel, to be able to have no perceptible delay when recording acoustic

keep me amused until bedtime.

Sincerely hoping that works out well for you. Their SEM is easily one
of their very best creations. Virtual instruments are so much better than the
originals in so many
ways.
I own an Oberheim Matrix-1000. It was not expensive. Assuming a mixing
console or analog inputs of an audio interface shouldn't cause noise,
it is as free from noise, as a virtual synth. The sound of CEM Curtis
chips is much more impressive than any emulation.
A real advantage of virtual instruments IMO is another domain. Last
Black Friday I purchased Miroslav Philharmonik. The value-for-money
ratio is much better, than recording a real orchestra. It doesn't
replace a real orchestra, but for me a virtual orchestra is the only
orchestra I could get.

Yes, the video was available no later than last week but was removed by
this wall-of-synths Bernd-Michael Land guy who certainly has found that
some musical bit in there belonged to him. Very recent removal.
Totally uncool from him to do that.
Biotek is an original synth. I'm currently playing with the ability to
play a percussive sequence. The main interface controls are
made for the exclusive purpose of being tweaked during performance.
The original Biotek did not have any other interface than the main
one. Then people complained and they added the full edit of all
parameters in the standard version. Quite an original synth. I find
it can have some 'wild' aspects like Discovery Pro can, like playing a
much distorted electric guitar.
