Hello,
I'm wondering, what is a good simple graphical display so I can monitor
the inputs while adjusting levels? This would be using alsa of course and
probably arecord or various others.

Which audio card? There's a mixer app called envy24control which works
with the M-Audio cards. It comes with the alsa drivers I believe.

If your app supports using Jack and Alsa, then check out meterbridge
which provides beautiful meters.

Its not just the M-Audio card, its any card based on the ice1712 chip.
For instance, my TerraTec DMX6Fire.
It comes with the alsa drivers I believe.
Its actually a separate package called alsa-tools which is not reuired
by the standard install.

- a ncurses based one: nrecord (no eye-candy, but easy to compile). Google said here it
