I have a Presonus Audiobox USB. It was working a few weeks ago, but
now my box doesn't seem to want to use it. I plug the USB cable in and
... well, here's the syslog:

I did log out/in, but no difference. I'll give a reboot a try, but ...
shouldn't it be easy?

Just to follow up on my post:
- reboot has no effect. The presonus is still not showing up
- and it's not the USB port. I plugged my Berhinger UCA 202 in and it
comes up just fine.

Well ... got it working. I was plugging the cable into the usb ports
on the front of my computer. They seem to work for everything else I
try, so why not the audio device?
But, to test once more I unplugged a cable from my flatbed scanner
(plugged into the back of the computer) and put it on the audio
device. Came up right away.
So, this actually points to an easy way to use the audio device ...
swap the cable out from the scanner. Since I'll never use both at the
same time, this makes it a bit easier since I don't have to reach
behind the computer to do the feel and grope routine :)
Still, what's wrong with the front panel ports?

Some front ports can't provide enough power for the device. I'm guessing
this thing is USB powered right?

Okay, that makes as much sense as anything else. The front ports are
connected to a header on the motherboard; the rear ones are mounted
right to the MB. I'm sure they all use the same usb chip.

The front panel ports are connected to the mainboard with a bunch of
unshielded cables. The problem is probably not the power (they haven't
let out the magic smoke, have they?) but noise picked up from somewhere.
