Hi folks,
I'm wanting to blacklist some audio devices so that the drivers don't get loaded
on boot.
avl5@funkster1:~$ cat /proc/asound/cards

I want to blacklist 2 + 3 (webcam and RADEON HD4650 HDMI).
I'm using AVLinux 5 (debian 6.0.1) with the custom pae_kernel 2.6.39-2 and after
reading the alsa
website for the correct ordering of cards on boot, I learned that we should use
the 'slots' option instead of 'index=nn'. The appropriate line in
/etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf is now:
options snd slots=snd-hda-intel,snd-ice1712
But I couldn't find anything about blacklisting. Mybe I'm just to blind to see.

So if anybody could help me out, I'd be very grateful.

Hello Raphael,
Afaik you can't. 2 is using snd-usb-audio and if you blacklist that
module then your BCR2000 and DR-880 won't work anymore. Same for
snd-hda-intel, if you blacklist that one the SB card will also dissapear
from the list of sound devices.
But of course the inevitable question... Why would you like to get rid
of those two devices? They're not really getting in the way I think.

At least on Gentoo it is /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf (the actual path and/or
filename may vary on different distros). Put a line containing 'blacklist
snd_hda_intel' or some other kernel module on it.
Device 2 uses snd_usb_audio-module so by blacklisting it you lose all
USB-audio-devices. As for the admittedly stupid HDMI device (3), on current
kernels it comes hand-to-hand with snd_hda_intel, so you can't have the one
without the other.

You can, there's the possibility to unbind drivers from specific drivers.

which didn't work at all for my Delta. It simply wasn't recognised anymore on
(re)boot.
With the 'slots' option instead, all seems well for the numbering of at least
the hda-intel (used for firefox, mediaplayers etc) and the delta.
I'll refrain from doing silly things then and just keep on rolling as is. Seems
more reasonable.
Because the system behaves well otherwise.

You're aware that you can also use the ALSA designation of the devices
with JACK? You can address your Delta as 'hw:M1010LT' and your onboard
card as 'hw:SB'. No need to index anything.

Hi Clemens, this would be placed in the alsa-base.conf if understand it right?
I'll have a go at it. I just thought of making things leaner, less messy, that's
why
I wanted to blacklist them in the first place.
