I'd say that penguin has a much greater presence than what your comment
infers. Besides, due to inherent mission the ones we will be (mostly)
attracting will be a part of the initiated crowd anyhow.

Let's not open *the* can o'worms ;-). Linux is nowadays synonymous with the
OS even though this was originally obviously not the case (think: xerox
becoming synonymous with making copies).

Possibly, but I'd say (at least IMHO) if the logo requires text as a
"crutch" to clarify its purpose, perhaps it has not achieved what is
supposed to be its primary goal--identity. Granted, some of this will be
generated in time through its persistence, but we should still aim for
something that is as independent from the text as possible.
