"Freeze" does exactly this. You can select it in the track canvas
context menu (which is opened via right click).

Are you talking about manual bouncing (directing the output of the track
to another for recording), or "freezing"?

One reason manual bouncing could fail is if you have set up Ardour so
that it doesn't run the plugins when recording. If freeze doesn't work,
that's a different ballgame altogether.
