i once made a mono version for JACK, but you can run that multiple
times: http://mir.dnsalias.com/wiki/oss:jrec:jrec2

it also can remove silence and gaps between recordings and includes some
quick hacks to encode mp3s or oggs.

AFAIR, rezound can start recording triggered on volume..
