The Doepfer Dark Energy used the CEM 3394 filter, which is why it's been 
discontinued -- get one whilst you can. Unavailability of this chip will 
affect some current Doepfer A100 modules as well.

DSI synths don't use traditional CEM chips, but a custom production run 
done a few years ago specifically for Dave Smith.

To the OP: there are emulations of Rolands out there, how good they are 
I wouldn't know, but running VSTi's doesn't necessarily mean running 
Windows -- many work fine with a VST host running under Wine and Wine-asio.
