Correction! The setup was:

 PC out -> keyboard in/out -> controller in/out -> PC in

Implication: It could very well have been the (underpowered) keyboard
merge that corrupted the SysEx.

After the firmware update, the Behringer isn't echoing SysEx anymore. So
I can't recreate the scenario for testing purposes :(
