Without `ambitious plugin stuff' like pcm_multi, nobody would be able
to use multiple sound cards with ALSA. The fact that pcm_multi has needed
patching since January 2005 to make it work in duplex mode with jackd
is only a minor inconvenience compared with not having it at all.
