Jan,
Yeah, I should work on this, but just haven't gotten around to it.

I think there are a couple of issues to deal with here. In general
I'm not personally too concerned with latency, so I do everything in
software inside of Ardour. This is true, I think, for most people
working on MIDI composition with only a little live audio.

The advantage of doing it this way is that the should survive on
anyone's system. If you and I decided to work on a session together, I
could send you my session file and you'd get the same hookup. That's a
positive to me since I like working with other people.

In the case where we use system hardware, then it only works with
that hardware. For instance, it's my understanding that my RME has a
mixer, but the mixer is disabled because the driver developer doesn't
have enough info to turn it on. If you sent me some sort of setup for
your hardware, it wouldn't work for me (I think) since I don't have the
same hardware.

I also have some issues with Ardour not supporting a standard stereo
model that effects this stuff greatly. This frustrates me because really
any write up to explain Ardour today will be made completely obsolete
whenever Ardour does support stereo. (AFAICT)

Take care,
Mark
