Nice. But it seems focused on "cute" features such as transparent
background and such.

Ahhh... I fondly remember the days when i could do that with
gnome-terminal.
For some obscure reason, no matter how much i tweak it, i can't get it
nowadays to occupy exactly 1/4 of my screen (with two 24 pix control
panels on top and at the bottom of the screen).
