Nah. Good question for a noob! ;-) 

Automation is your friend. 

Record a mono track in Ardour. The output of the mono track goes to
master left and master right. Now set the panning full left and drag
the pan control to the right. The sound moves left to right.

Record the automation and it does it every time in the future.
