i see... perhaps it's a 2.6 kernel thing? wavesurfer always worked fine for
me in LFS, but that was an oldish LFS 5-something, with a 2.4 kernel.

searching the web the only reference i found of a similar problem was also
from a gentoo user. no solution was mentioned...
