[linux-audio-user] Converting DAT to 16 bit/44KHz stereo using S/PDIF

Just wanted to add to the previous mail --how will the sample rate be 
determined between the two devices, is there a hand shake that takes 
place between the two devices when they are connected ? Or is alsa mixer 
supposed to take care of the input only.
