Well, a very, very long time ago I had crackling;). I can help you
with this problem, but you need to do a couple of things first:
compile newest alsa-*, kernel with mingo realtime patch, jack and all
other apps involved, disable acpi and put your spu on irq 9 alone,
then start a fresh mailinglist thread if you still got the problem;).

If you still find crackles after the above procedure, you should start
looking at realtime priority, PCI latency, DMA for the hd, filesystem
type, IRQ priority and max_transfer_size for the hd.
