how much work do you think it is to redraw a 16 pixel wide vertical
rectangle as the playhead moves, versus redrawing almost every pixel in
every track as the waveform scrolls?

do you want to waste those cycles?

oh, and at the last AES convention, the Fairlight booth was more or less
deserted despite being filled with some very cool looking gear.
