Tool still come up with sologuitars and they sound pretty contemporary
doing so.And the monsters of rock including the guitasolos are back
also, even on vinyl and even as instrumental-bands. Mogwai is an
example, Caspian is another.Mastodon celebrate Metal as if we are still
back in 1975 only a bit harsher and faster and Black Mountain sound like
if they are from the early seventies, art rock is back, I hear... And
those bands are often called "avantgarde" or "the next big thing"

I made an recording earlier this year with a band from Berlin/germ age
20something. Its bluesrock - puristic, with some folk in it:

and these guys are definately not considered being old fashioned amongst
their peer-group of youngsters.
