[LAU] howto record saxophone?

Perhaps my reply won't be terribly useful to you; but I recommend using 
a large diaphragm condenser microphone.

This is a pretty bad photo, but it shows me recording my tenor sax with 
a Behringer B-1 large diaphragm condenser. I've had excellent results 
using this microphone with saxophones, trumpets, clarinets and other 
"loud" instruments. Here you can see im pointing the microphone into the 
horn of the sax, a few inches away.

My mixer is a Phonic Helix Board 24 Firewire.

If buying a large diaphragm condenser is not an option, then a 58a will 
do fine. Do as Arnold recommended and place the microphone pointing into 
the horn, a few inches away. Changing the distance will change the 
quality of the sound - you will just have to try and see what sounds best :)
