Seeing this thread today and having faced the same problem a few days
earlier , I googled for an answer and came across a small personal .asoundrc
which claims to solve it by creating a temporary ALSA to jack bridge. Now I
don't know much about the internalsa of ALSA routings and I cretainly do not
muck around with .asoundrc files, but this seemed OK , so I tried it, and it
worked flawlessly in my setup
Opensuse 11.2 32bit, Terratec Phase22 24bit
jack 0.118.0 from obs://build.opensuse.org/home:edogawa repository,
alsa 1.0.21
firefox 3.5.6, flash-player 10.0.42.34

I'm not sure if this will help, YMMV, but maybe someone more in the know
will step up.

Just copy it in your home dir as .asoundrc (DO backup the original, if
any...)
