Hi, I've been getting the same boot fails using qemu and differents versions 
of the live... I've to check if the problem occures also with a classical 
debian live system... using virtualbox, the system boots correctly...

If you want to check io GNU/Linux.... just can suggest you to burn a DVD or 
better put it in an USB pen using:
dd if=io-live-hybrid-2.6.33-2-rt13.mk.5-io-rt-686--20100721-0050.iso 
of=/dev/sdb (assuming the removable disk is /dev/sdb)...
(depending of your distribution you may need to execute this command with 
sudo)
