VMPK is not a FluidSynth front-end, it is a virtual piano. VMPK and QSynth are  
complementary applications for graphic desktops (Linux, Windows and Mac). You 
can produce MIDI events with VMPK that can be consumed by QSynth (or any other 
compatible MIDI synth) when you connect both programs.

What you probably read is about an application that I've published a few weeks 
ago for mobile phones (Nokia N9/N950) combining (statically linked) VMPK and 
FluidSynth, because on these small devices is not easy (or even possible) to 
connect two MIDI applications together.
