[LAU] MIDI note input by rhythm?

When I need to quickly generate some MIDI to play along with I
typically use lilypond to enter notes&rhythms on diferent tracks.
Then I might do some tweaking in Rosegarden, but more often
than not I'll just put it directly through to a hardware synth.
This is only for practicing of course.
