Jonathan, this notion is non-sensical. The reconstructed analog signal
will be perfect all the way up to the Nyquist frequency minus the
roll-off of the filter. So you needn't worry about your treble range
until at least 20 kHz, and expect only a gently roll-off above.
Your other argument about the low levels does not pertain to sample rate
at all, only to word length. Good Low-level performance means good
dynamic range. For that, 24 bits is plenty. The main thing that's going
to constrain you at low levels is analog noise.
