my guess was to find a good recipe for a mushroom soup or a magic salve.
Btw. are you aware that when drying a thorn apple, it opens 
in the same way as an egg, in the movie Alien does? I tested this many
years ago, when I was young. It does :). You nee a knife to pick a
thorn apple, there's no chance to simply pick it. I tried it without a
knife first ... no chance :D.
