Because Windows stinks?  I have to admit that this was a significant
motivation for me to stick to UNIX-related jobs or embedded system
programming (when Linux was not even existent yet) rather than hop on
the Windows bandwagon.

The full evil of Microsoft unfurled afterwards so it turns out that was
a good choice for more reasons than imagined.

Except that Windows stinks.  It really does, at a technical level.

If you can utilize and possibly even sabotage a bit of FOSS, why not?
It's not like you need to contribute to its progress.
