I was using ALT-left and ALT-right, it took me where I wanted faster 
than the navigation slider. I guess I can get used to other ways, too :-)

I found an answer to my second question, about deleting regions, in 
Bruno Ruviaro's manual:

Just search in that page for deleted regions.
