Try adding -z:db to the ecasound command-line. Even better, try upgrading
to the latest stable ecasound (2.2.0, 2.0 is nearly two years old). Then
use native ALSA access... for example (using your original example):

ecasound -c -r -b:1024 \
-a:1,3  -i:alsa,default  \
-a:2    -i:Metronome.wav -ea:300 \
-a:1,2  -o:alsa,default \
-a:3    -o:Guitar-Vocal.wav

Now if you still get a glitch during recording, 2.2.0 will print a warning
or error msg about it. From this info it is usually possible to determine
whether the performance problems are caused by disk i/o or task
scheduling.
