there is a major problem with the alsa distribution with Mandrake 9.0
which causes really badly distorted sound when used with the m-audio usb
quattro - i had to remove the distributed modules entirely and use CVS
tarballs to solve this problem as it wasnt resolved by using the Cooker
upgrades.

actually i've always had problems with Mandrake's auto-configuring of
sound - i think it would be good to have more options for configuration
built into the install program, as they are with X or printer and modem
config. Mandrake 9.0 detects the wrong soundcard for my thinkpad 600e
and wont yet configure my usb-audio soundcard... maybe i just pick the
wrong cards - the first one i struggled to install was the Turtle Beach
Pinnacle under mandrake 7.0.... but i've stuck with it as i like
Mandrake as a distro... maybe Mdk could take a leaf out of SuSE's book
with having multimedia easily configured at install....
