I've discovered it is possible to manually set an effect's default settings

Actually I've tried to run the version of ardour that came with SuSE and
couldn't get it to cooperate at all. Just noticed that SuSE 9.2 comes with
jack-rack, but am sticking to my decision to wait until 9.3/10 to upgrade
(for the moment).
