Hi,
I have been using jack for years without problems on my debian/stable PC
running 4.19.0-17-rt-amd64 #1 SMP PREEMPT RT Debian 4.19.194-3
(2021-07-18) x86_64.
I recently acquired a Boss RC-505 which is giving me trouble getting
it's USB audio working. (By contrast I have a Scarlett 2i2 external USB
sound card which works 100%)
I use qjackctl to set jack up, and it is giving some error messages
which I will include below.
From the perspective of dmesg, lsusb and the info in qjackctl, it looks
like the RC-505 is being detected correctly it seems.
FYI when I set up qjackctl to use the RC-505 instead of the Scarlett, I
see that jack is set up as follows:
/usr/bin/jackd -dalsa -r48000 -p256 -n2 -Xseq -D -Chw:RC505 -Phw:PCH
I am a programmer, so I'm not afraid to "get my hands dirty" - I just
don't know where to start. What would you guys suggest?

I have no experience with the RC-505 but I wonder whether it supports a
sample rate of 48 kHz. If it can't then the above jackd command will fail
because the RC-505 will reject the request to operate at 48 kHz.
A very quick scan of the internet didn't turn up detailed information about
the RC-505. However, in the user manual I note on page 26 only 44.1 kHz WAV
files are supported. It is therefore possible that the unit operates at a
fixed sampling rate of 44.1 kHz and therefore it might be worth trying
"-r44100" in your jackd command to see if that works any better.

Perhaps try different explicit sample formats. Maybe the RC-505 only
accepts a single sample format which happens to differ from jackd's default.
The only other thing I can think of is the period size (-p) and number of
buffers (-n). In the past I recall that some devices operated better with
particular choices of these, although I'm not sure that this applies these
days. For example, I have a memory that some USB devices worked best with
"-n 3" but I don't have a reference off-hand - maybe this is my imagination
at work, or it's something which hasn't been relevant for many years.

Unfortunately changing the sample rate as you suggested didn't work. Any
other ideas?
