Hello. I found an interesting paper on intervention schedules.
The author Curtis Abbott worked at Lucasfilm and the paper
is only one of the series of papers written by them.
Their system had multiple DSP processors and multiple control
computers with automation. We are doing similar real-time system
in software.
In any case, the paper is at
"http://www.funet.fi/~kouhia/abbott-ischedules.tar.gz"
for a couple of days only as I'm not the copyright owner.
Anyone has the following papers. These are also related to
my search on prior-art for so called Gigasampler patent.
IMHO, we do not need prior art for caching (and keeping) the
first part of each audio clip to memory, but there are people
who are willing to weaken their open source software volunteerly.

Hello,
the first version of my new QT based mixer for ALSA is available from:
ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/people/mana/qamix-0.0.1.tar.bz2
The mixer GUI can be configured with an XML description file. Default
files are provided with the tarball. See the README for more.
At this occasion I would like to also announce QARecord, a simple
but multithreaded stereo recording tool for both ALSA and JACK.
Version 0.0.9 fixes a bug in the level meters.
ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/people/mana/qarecord-0.0.9.tar.bz2
Have fun !

Good news.... yeah... sure...
When I read the title I was hoping for something like:
- Kernel 2.6 is tested reliably with 16-samples buffers... or something
similar... :-)
Oh well, I'll have to settle for the millions then...

How does the P4 machine compare against itself with hyperthreading turned off?
I'm not surprised that hyperthreading is slower than a true dual CPU setup. Two CPUs sharing their cache? That's got to increase cache misses.

support? (HT simulates two processors on one processor using - I guess -
the spare time available in the cpu when it is waiting for, for example,
memory accesses).
Anyway, on a:
P4 2.4G 800MHz fsb, 875P chipset, 1G ram, Seagate Barracuda V 60G drive:
Booting into an smp kernel with HT enabled in the bios (kernel based on
2.4.21-rc6 with the usual low latency, preemptive and full acpi kernel
patches) I see both processors, but the latency in the disk tests (using
latencytest 0.42) has spikes that go up to 10/15 msecs, specially in the
read/write test.
If I boot into a up kernel, or if I boot with acpi=off I see only one
processor and the latency for the disk tests is fine.
Same kernel, same alsa on a dual Athlon MP 1800+ machine does not show
any abnormal latency behavior so this seems to be confined to HT
machines... :-(
I guess "made up" processors are not as good as real ones :-)

Hello. It is still quite unclear to me how I actually would code
the MVC type software. Can anyone give practical hints?
Practical examples taken from existing software would be fine
too.
What open source software uses MVC? Most open source software
seems to manipulate the model data in the GUI routines, I see.
MVC sure is a great thing, but I would like to see a concrete
toolkit or a hint list which helps me in making perfect MVC
code immediately. Is it even possible to write a MVC toolkit?
What would be in such a toolkit?
Best regards,
Juhana

This is an extremely informal release. The program is not
useful yet for linux, but the porting is nearly there.
So for anyone interested in looking at, in my opinion,
the best :) graphical note-based music editor for any plattform,
running in linux, here is a .tar.bz2 file:
http://www.notam02.no/radium/bin/radium062_src.tar.bz2
*****
To make it run, cut and paste the following into a terminal:
wget http://www.notam02.no/radium/bin/radium062_src.tar.bz2
bzip2 -d radium062_src.tar.bz2
tar xvf radium062_src.tar
cd radium062_src
cd radium ; ./build.sh
cd .. ; make
./start.sh
*****
Here is the homepage:
http://www.notam02.no/radium/
*****
And here is a screenshot of 0.62 running in linux:
http://www.notam02.no/radium/pictures/v062_linux.png
(notice the runnning of xlib(editor), qt(fx selector),
gtk(midi settings/help) and tk(playlist) simultaniously :))

Hi to everybody...
I'd like to introduce myself to you and to present you my new project.
I'm a 26 year old programmer living on the Canary Islands. Unfortunately I'm
new to Linux and I've been specializing on Pascar rather than on C. I'm a
hobby musician and that's where my idea started. I seek people like me who'd
like to help me to assemble a really good studio system with existing aAPIs
and peaces of code. Today I uploaded my initial page which explains the
project. Please have a look at
http://laudio.freehomepage.com/index.html (my page) where I describe the
project in detail. Comments are welcome.
Thank you & greetz
