In Labview user creates the circuit editor and the control panel. Both existed alone earlier. Labview includes special GUI elements in the circuit (see Reaktor, for example). I'm in belief that this connection can be done slightly differently without violating the patent. When Csound type software was first written? 1960? 70? There are other Labview patents. One patent patents what I have invented prior them. I remember posting it to a mailing list, but have not yet found it. I have not read the patent but my idea was that when the module is a subgraph, a click on the module opens up a graph editor; and when the module is a script, a click on the module opens up a text editor. Hi all, sorry for crossposting, just wanted to let everybody know: The official statement is that there will be no support for ALSA (Linux) FireWire drivers from RME. In other words there will be no such drivers, as it is impossible to write them without tons of hardware and software documentation from RME. And we won't share these information with anyone. Regards Matthias Carstens RME No further explanations. The moral of this story is: Never buy a product that isn't already supported in ALSA, such as i did. :( There's no guarantee even if pretty much every other card from the same manufacturer *is* already supported. Me and Benno talked to Matthias personally during Musikmesse, he was friendly and seemed to be open with regards to future cooperation with oss developers. Seems like things have changed dramatically since then. Marek

Hello, have now figured out how to drive my audio and midi with tascam us-122 on SuSE 9.2 -- and (after disabling all tv thingies) it works very reliable and with very few xruns. The following software seems to be involved: - linux-2.6.8-24.3 (SuSE Standard kernel -- heavily patched) patched with linux-2.6.8-24-usx2y-0.8.6.patch from rncbc (CONFIG_HPET_RTC_IRQ=n) - realtime-lsm-0.8.5 - ruis jack jack-0.99.21.1usx2y-17.suse92 - qjackctl-0.2.13-1 - rosegarden4-0.9.9-2 - ZynAddSubFX-1.4.3-141 With this configuration I have found a weird problem: When starting jack with driver 'alsa' (from qjackctl) I am able to play my alsa instruments (for example ZynAddSubFX) from within rosegarden: - start ZynAddSubFX - start rosegarden - choose ZynAddSubFX for the active track - play the keyboard an listen to nice ZynAddSubFX sounds ... But when starting jack with driver 'usx2y' the midi seems not to arrive at ZynAddSubFX (or Hydrogen or fluidsynth or ...) Even ASeqView doesn't show any incoming events if chosen as instrument in rosegarden. Restarting jack with driver alsa -- and all went well ... What is the problem? And what can I do to help with this problem? Are there any missing facts? Yours Uwe Koloska

[linux-audio-dev] Firewire and Macie Onyx

(Somewhat related to recent threads.) I see that the new Mackie mixers (the Onyx series) have the possibility to put in a card with D/A converters and a FireWire connection to a computer. I have bought one of these mixers, and might be interested in bying such a card for recording purposes. But it will need to have Linux drivers. How probable is it that Mackie will produce such drivers, or release the necessary specs? And, if given specs, can someone be persuaded to do a driver? (According to what I have read, the the card works just "out of the box" with Mac OsX's Core Audio drivers. While for MS Windows, drivers are needed.) Asbjørn Sæbø

Since this has been mentioned, my US-122 doesn't work AT ALL using usx2y, but is fine with alsa. I am using qjackctl 0.2.13 and Jack 0.99.0 (the most recent versions AFAIK). All I get is: 17:47:12.866 JACK is starting... 17:47:12.867 /usr/bin/jackstart -R -dusx2y -dhw:1 -r44100 -p512 -n3 -H -M 17:47:12.873 JACK was started with PID=6369 (0x18e1). back from read, ret = 1 errno == Success jackd: unknown driver 'usx2y' 17:47:12.885 JACK was stopped with exit status=1. 17:47:14.885 Could not connect to JACK server as client. This doesn't bother me, unless there are meant to be advantages of using usx2y? Features include onset detection (the complex task of labelling the beginning of notes and other sound events), silence detection (an easier but very useful task) and pitch detection (the estimation of the fundamental frequency of the sound). Hi, 1. Can anybody explain me (I think, Fons Adriaensen can :-) the JAAA "Bandw" parameter meaning? 2. When Bandw parameter is rather small, I see two spectrums - main (blue) and, below the first, - the second one (gray). What is the last spectre spectrum meaning? Andrew
