Eh, I've warmed up to it. It has its good and bad points.
You can trim out all the arch's you don't want (debian/config/defines,
IIRC) and re-build for just a single arch:
$ fakeroot make -f ./debian/rules.gen binary-arch_i386_none_686 -j2
-gabriel

I only do need amd64 == x86_64. What option do I need to add?
