Well, CD audio usually gets resampled anyway if you
play them in analog
mode. 44.1 is essential for a consumer or "prosumer" device but I would
think most users of a high end interface would run at 96Khz and resample
44.1 content.
Possibly to work on material destined for audio CD.
44.1 is still quite common for this use as resampling adds some artifacts.
